Dear Winterwithlight,

I happen to be wearing my favorite gray cashmere hat, my pink and grey hand-knit cashmere scarf, and my gray cashmere sweater right now. I, too, love the feel of it, and have many more scarfs of the same (and one small blanket.) All I sleep in are white cotton sheets, and my floors, which I just refinished, are all beautiful and shiny wood that are pleasing to the eye and feel, of course, wonderful underfoot. So, on the purely sensual, it seems as though we hold many of the same cards. It so happens, too, that until I recently erased it, I had a Vermeer for my homepage. Now, it's the late, great Harry Smith.

You mention Sienna; I have been told many times that it is the most beautiful city in Europe. I travelled many, lived in some, but I haven't made it there yet, though someday I will. That, and Dubrovnik...

My life is devoted to writing. In time, if we end up having a conversation, I'd be happy to show you my work which often figures painters (and their paintings themselves) in my texts, from Wyeth to the great canvasses of Kiefer.

As for your opening line in your profile, about beauty and the beholder's eye, I'm a little dazzled, actually, and have woken up the Wordsworth long tucked away: "Behold her, single in the field, Yon solitary Highland Lass." You have stopped me cold in my tracks.
