Dear Onlyorganic,
No offense, but how anybody could read John Updike is beyond me. I read 2000 pages of him when I was stuck in Budapest in 1985, and he is without a doubt the least interesting most plodding least inspirational most insipid "writer" I have ever come across. Not a grain of poetry in him. No magic. Dull as the backside of a dartboard.
